Harry H. McDonald

McDONALD, Harry H., age 83, of Vandalia, departed this life into the glory of Heaven on June 1, 2010. He was born and raised in Pennsylvania and entered the military after high school, serving in the U.S. Army in the Phillippines and Japan. After discharge, Harry was employed as a lab technician before returning to military service with the newly formed U.S. Air Force, serving a total of 24 years and retiring as MSGT. Throughout his career he graduated from several technical training schools in the field of electronics. Based upon his special training and experience, Harry was selected for assignments to top secret projects in Germany, England, France and Japan. In recognition of his demonstrated technical skills, leadership and self-improvement through correspondence courses, Harry received a 2 year equivalency in Electrical Engineering. After his retirement, he worked 22 years in the WPAFB Research Laboratory on several difficult assignments. Harry was a longtime member of the Vandalia Baptist Temple, serving as an usher, sound technician and a Trustee. Preceded in death by his wife, Inge in 2006, after 51 years of love and happiness, Harry is survived by his daughter, Debra of Vandalia; his son, Edwin & wife, Debra of Cedarville; 4 granddaughters, Amanda & husband, Kevin Max of MI, Angela & husband, Jim Ferguson of KS, Lauren of Vandalia and Jessica & husband, Charles Evans of Jamestown; 4 great-grandchildren, Alyssa, London, Wilder & Knightley; 4 sisters, Fae Imler, June & husband, Ben Fickes, Helen & husband, Walt Heidelbach and Kay Schon. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 5, at the Vandalia Baptist Temple, 724 Helke Rd., Vandalia with Rev. Rick Washburn officiating. Burial to follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia on Friday from 6-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Vandalia Baptist Temple Mission Fund in Harrys memory.
