Helen A. Tomski

TOMSKI, Helen A., age 94 of Millersburg, OH, formerly of Vandalia, passed away Friday, December 9, 2016 at the Majora Lane Center in Millersburg. She was born May 22, 1922 in Chicago, IL, daughter of the late William A. & Helen (Vanderski) Sikorski. Helen was a founding member of St. Christopher Catholic Church and was a longtime member of the choir. She also was active in a variety of missions with the church including collecting and donating clothing to those in need, the Great Books Reading Club and countless other mission driven projects. Helen took great pride in donating her time and energy to those less fortunate than she.

Helen was a fixture in the Vandalia community and served as the Director of the Vandalia Senior Citizens Center for several years. On March 19, 2005 Helen was honored for 25 years of service to the Citizens of Vandalia. She was also named the City of Vandalia Employee of the Year and was a finalist in the Top 10 Women of Dayton. Helen was also one of the founding members of the Vandalia Sister Cities.

Preceded in death by her husband, Adam; 3 sisters, Rita Kelly, Lorraine Skarren & Bernadette Sullaway, Helen is survived by her 3 children, Susan Miller (Douglas) of Beavercreek, Bonnie Tomski (Dan Lykins) of Corvallis, OR and Jeff Tomski (Elaine) of Killbuck, OH; 5 grandchildren, Kyle Youker (Kelly), Tim and Ben Lykins; Adam Tomski (Arlette) & Lauren Giffin (Ryan); 4 great-grandsons, Tristan, Landon, Cameron & Bennett; 2 sisters, Rose Mary Spreitzer of Rockford, IL & Joan Muehlfelder of Deland, FL, along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, December 14 at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 435 E. National Rd., Vandalia with Fr. Francis Keferl officiating. Interment will follow at Poplar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia on Tuesday from 6-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Christopher School Tuition Assistance Fund in Helen’s memory.
