LESLIE, Henrietta King (Ashby), age 91, of Vandalia, Ohio passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Hearth and Home of Vandalia. Henrietta was the beloved wife of the late James A. Leslie for 56 years, who went home in 1994. In 1938 they were married in Evansville Indiana where they lived and had three sons before moving to Ohio in the late 1950s. She was the daughter of the late Paul E. and Bessie W. Ashby and was predeceased by a sister Pauline Riechmann of Evansville. She was born in Onton Kentucky, and graduated from Bosse High School in Evansville. Henriettas primary interests always seemed to be her family and friends. But in addition she was perpetually involved as a volunteer; Den Mother for Cub Scouts, Brownie leader, PTA officer, Sunday School teacher, organizer of a support group for Parkinson afflicted families, community Halfway house, Head Start, librarian, and for various community charity drives. Henrietta is survived by three sons, Stephen Elliott and his wife Rita M. Leslie of Vandalia Ohio, James Thomas and his wife Sharon L. Leslie of Sagamore Hills Ohio, Mark Alan of Newark, Ohio. She was proud of her 8 grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren as follows: Grandson Scott Alan and his wife Lori Leslie and children Taylor Katherine, Neakailen James, and Tavish Gabrielle of Fairfield Ohio; Grandson Craig Thomas and his wife Lisa Leslie and children Caitlin Elizabeth and Meghan Christine of Willoughby Ohio; Grandaughter Jennifer Anne Keith with children Jacob Stephen, Grace Elizabeth, Noah Robert, Elliott James, and Hope Leslie of West Chester Ohio; Grandaughter Jill Marie and husband John Zawada with children John Thomas, James Edward, and Jessica Leslie of Brecksville Ohio; Grandson Todd Eric and wife Stephanie Leslie with children Gavin Michael and Grant Thomas of Kent, Ohio; Grandchildren Patrick James Leslie, Katherine Ashby Leslie, and Peter William Leslie of Lewis Center Ohio. Funeral service for family and friends will be held at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr, Vandalia at 2:00 PM EDT on Monday August 23, 2010. Friends may call from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service. Services will be officiated by the Rev. Thomas Weeks of Vandalia United Methodist Church. Graveside Commitment service will be conducted by Alexander Funeral Home, East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Ave Evansville Indiana at Oak Hill Cemetery in Evansville at 10:00 AM [Central] on Wednesday August 25, 2010.
