Iona M. Strack

STRACK, Iona M. age 89 of the Caldwell House in Troy, formerly of Tipp City and Vandalia, passed away Thursday January 27, 2011 at her residence. She was born June 1, 1921 in Richmond, IN daughter of the late Elmer & Elsie (Wisman) Hughes. Iona was a graduate of Stivers High School Class of 1939 and was a WWII U.S. Marine Corp Veteran serving from October 1943 to November 1945 as a Platoon Leader and Drill Sergeant. She was a retired employee from Monroe Federal Savings and Loan where she served as Assistant Secretary and Treasurer. Her hobbies included craft making, handwork, playing cards and reading. Iona was preceded in death by her husband Clarence and one sister Joanne. She is survived by her children Mike (Rochelle) Strack of Middletown, Sheila (Donald) Wertz of Springfield, Pam (Ted Williams) Strack of Tipp City; 5 grandchildren John, Shannon, Chelsea, Amber, and Katelyn; 5 great-grandchildren Nichole, Brandon, Lainey, Bryce, and Lauren, and a host of relatives and friends especially her dear friend Richard Deweese of Troy. A gathering of friends and celebration of Ionas Life will be held Saturday February 5, from 2:00 - 3:30pm at the Caldwell House 2900 Corporate Dr. Troy. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:30 pm, with Chaplain Mark Meyer officiating. It was Ionas request that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the American Heart Association or to the Alzheimers Association in her memory.
