Irene M. Smith

Irene R. Smith Age 96 of Vandalia, passed away at her home on Wednesday, November 5, 2014. Irene was born May 6, 1918 in Ashville, Ohio to the late Harley & Evalyn (Beery) Runkle. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Norman E. Smith, in 1999. Irene is survived by two sons, David Smith and Scott (Tia) Smith; four grandchildren, Heather (Ryan), Sean, Matthew (Ashley) and Robin (Jared); two great grandchildren, Lakyn and Peyton with another due in April. Irene became a published author at the age of 92. She will be lovingly remembered by her family as being a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. The family will be receiving friends from 12 Noon until 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 15, at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Inurnment will be at Poplar Hill Cemetery in Vandalia. If friends desire, contributions may be made in memory of Irene to The Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, Ohio 45420.
