Jack F. Faust Age 86, of Vandalia, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2015, at Hospice of Dayton. Jack was born September 11, 1928 in Troy, Ohio to the late Hershel E. & Hazel E. (Shroyer) Faust. He was named after the fighter Jack Dempsey. Jack lived in the same house on Franklin Street with his grandparents and parents his entire childhood. He enjoyed an active, happy life with friends and familyaunts and uncles, and 24 cousins. He loved tending his gardens, caring for his pets and animals on his grandfather's farm, and building things. He graduated from Troy High School in 1946, and The Ohio State University in 1950 with a degree in Horticulture. After college he served in the U. S. Army with much of his service very close to enemy lines during the Korean War. Upon his return from the war, Jack enjoyed a lifelong career in horticulture. In his early years, he worked with his dear friend Fred Buscher in his nursery in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1953, Jack planted the rose bushes to create the Columbus Park of Roses. He worked for the State of Ohio for several years as a nursery inspector. He later established his own landscaping business, growing trees and bushes in his private nursery. Jack retired with 20 years of service as park planner for the City of Dayton. Jack was a long-time member of Grace United Methodist Church, a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity at The Ohio State University. He enjoyed many wonderful trips to Hawaii, Europe, Egypt and China. Above all, he adored spending time with his family and friends. Jack is survived by his beloved wife of the past 64 years, Carolyn I. (Pifer) Faust; two daughters, Heidi Long (Steven) & Dr. Holly Hahn (John); three grandchildren, Amanda Long, Stephanie Llacuna & John "Jack" Hahn; five great grandchildren, Eva Spencer, Unomi Koshari, Sage Eyth, and Jasmine & Nanea Llacuna; and by his extended family and many good friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Jack F. Faust, Jr. and Charles F. Faust, II. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Friday, April 24, at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Interment will follow at Poplar Hill Cemetery, Vandalia. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until time of service on Friday.
