Jack H. Wachter

Age 93, of Vandalia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 23, 2025, with his family by his side. Jack was born September 30, 1931 in Quincy, Illinois to the late Frank & Valentine (Lohman) Wachter. In addition to his parents, Jack was also preceded in death by his wife Lavelle Wachter in 2012; his special companion of eleven years, Dorothy “Dottie” Sommer; and by one sister, Shirley Stephens.

Jack was a veteran of the U. S. Army, having served in Korea and he retired from Wright-Patterson AFB with over 25 years of service. He was a member of AMVETS. He enjoyed fishing and was a talented wood carver.

Jack is survived by two children, Melody Sumpter & her husband, Joey and Mitch & his wife, Heidi; five grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and by his extended family & many good friends.

A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family at Royal Oak Memorial Gardens. Morton & Whetstone funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
