DANE, James D., age 90 of Butler Twp., died Saturday, September 1, 2012. He was born June 7, 1922 in Dayton, OH, son of the late Gust & Diana Dane. James attended Roosevelt High School, where he lettered in football. He joined the U.S. Army and proudly served in the 95th Infantry Division as a Tech Sargent, seeing action in Belgium and France and was wounded at the Battle of Metz. James received the Purple Heart as well as numerous other medals, the most recent being the Napoleonic Cross from the French Government for liberating the French people in the town of Metz in WWII. He was a Mason and was the founder of Crossroads Realty and Appraisals by DANE. He was a member of the Amvets Post #99 and the VFW Post #9582. James loved his family and was always proud of his large garden. He loved all sports, especially football, baseball and NASCAR racing. Preceded in death by his parents, infant sister, Victoria; sisters, Ethyl Dane, Olga Gradsky, & Frances Dine; brothers, Perry, Al & Anastas Dane; brothers-in-law, George Dine and Alan Gradsky; sisters-in-law, Ann & Larrie Dane; nephews, Jerry Gradsky & Tom Owens; James is survived by his wife of 66 years, Alvina Dane; daughter, Melanie Dane of Vandalia; son, Daniel Dane & wife, Toni of Centerville; sister-in-law, Ann Mooney of Dayton; granddaughters, Lydia Brashear (Jim) & Sarah Baker (Jim) all of Mason; great-granddaughters, Holly & Rose Brashear, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, September 6 at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia. Burial will follow at Poplar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 12 noon until time of service.
