James R. Elliott

ELLIOTT, James R. of Vandalia, OH, age 83, passed away Friday, January 17, 2014. He was born on March 4, 1930, and attended Gettysburg, OH, schools. He graduated from high school in 1948, served in the US Navy during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged. Jim worked as a production specialist and supervisor for Tube Products and Angel Manufacturing. He married Evelyn Pence in 1958 and she preceded him in death in 2005 after 47 years of marriage. He and Evelyn were long-time volunteers both at Grandview and Southview hospitals. He was honored by the Grand Lodge of Ohio for his 60-plus years of leadership and devoted service to the Vandalia Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, and Antioch Shrine. The Vandalia Lodge, at its 60th anniversary celebration, November 13, 2012, named their building the James R. Elliott Masonic Center and the City of Vandalia named that day the James R. Elliott Day. Jim also loved to camp and spent many days at Lake Laramie State Park with his fishing pole in the water by his camper. He is survived by his sister Martha Hickey (Robert) of Oxford, OH, and brother Frank Elliott (Delores) of Summerfield, FL, numerous nieces and nephews, and dear friend Rosalie Schultz. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn, parents, Carl C. and Esther L. Elliott, and sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and George Trittschuh. Arrangements are being handled by Morton-Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 South Dixie Dr. Vandalia, OH. Visitation will be held Monday, January 20, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Vandalia United Methodist Church, 200 South Dixie Drive, Vandalia, followed by a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at the church, 1:00 p.m.,Tuesday, January 21 with Rev. Thomas Weeks officiating. Following the service, burial will be in the Masonic Section of Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, 11890North Dixie Dr., Tipp City, OH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vandalia Masonic Lodge #742, Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, Antioch Shrine, or Grandview Hospital.
