HANERTY, JAMES (Jim) 90
of Vandalia, passed away Thursday at Cypress Pointe Nursing Center following an extended illness. Jim served in the Army during the Korean War and retired from Dayton Power & Light in 1985 following 35 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents and several siblings.
He is survived by a loving sister Kathryn (Robert) of Piqua, one niece, Joyce Orange of Vandalia, several nephews, Terrance Weber of Piqua, Timothy Weber of Springboro, Richard Orange of Vandalia, and Doug Orange of London, Ohio. He is also survived by numerous great, great-great, and great-great-great nephews and nieces. Jim was a loving brother, uncle, and friend who devoted his life to caring for his sisters. He was always ready to help anyone in need. His humor, honesty, potato salad, and feisty spirit will be missed by all.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 2 at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Drive, Vandalia from 5:00-7:00 PM. A Catholic Mass and Celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 3 at St. Joseph Catholic Church 411 E. Second Street, Dayton beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery immediately following the mass. The family would like to thank Uncle Jim’s primary caregiver and special nephew, Eric Weber of Vandalia, who provided outstanding daily care for Uncle Jim for the past eight years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St Joseph Catholic Church, 411 E. Second Street, Dayton OH 45402 in Jim’s honor. Rest in peace Uncle Jim.
