HEMPEL, James A. “Jim”, age 83 of Vandalia, passed away Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Stonespring of Vandalia. Jim was born September 13, 1937 in Cincinnati, OH, son of the late Elmer & Mary (DeCorrevont) Hempel. He was a proud graduate of Roger Bacon High School, served in the U.S. Army, earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Cincinnati and was a devoted UC Bearcat. Jim retired from the Vandalia-Butler City School District where he spent 28 years as the beloved Latin teacher. He loved his work as an educator and remained in close contact with many of his students who ultimately became Jim’s extended family.
Preceded in death by his parents, Jim is survived by his close circle of very special friends, Karla Clayton, David Luken, Linda & Michael O’Callaghan, Pete & Linda Bridenbaugh, Linda & Michael Brown and Steve & Sonya Oxley.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, July 23, 2021 followed by lunch and fellowship at Vandalia United Methodist Church, 200 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia.
