James W. Wooddell

WOODDELL, James W., age 85 of Tipp City, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2016. He was born January 9, 1931 in Cincinnati, OH son of the late James & Kathryn (Reck) Wooddell. James was a graduate of Bradford High School, Class of 1950, a successful business owner and a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a passionate and faithful servant of the Lord for over 53 years, serving in a multitude of roles including Deacon, music director, choir member, Awana Commander, Sunday School teacher, Bible study teacher and Career Class instructor. James was a member of the Gideon’s and he shared his love of the Lord and his heart with all ages from children to seniors in a variety of ways, including his bus ministry and nursing home music ministry.

James was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Herbert Wooddell, 1 sister, Juanita Owen and Shirley Ann Wooddell and 1 granddaughter, Madison Schultz. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Iris of Tipp City; 1 son, Dr. Scott Wooddell & wife, Debbie of Rockwell, TX; 2 daughters, Julie Kihm & husband, Daniel of Tipp City, and Karen Younce of Tipp City; 2 brothers, Doug Wooddell and Marvin Wooddell & wife, Marge; 1 sister, Patricia Hubler & husband, Harry; sister-in-law, Lee Wooddell; 9 grandchildren, Jenna Hidalgo, Joanna Wooddell, Kimberly (Shane) Schultz, Jeremy Farris, Ryan (Anne) Farris, Brooks (Lindsay) Younce, Jessalyn Younce, Wynston Brynt (Carolyn) Younce and Douglas Younce; 18 great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and good friends. James was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, May 20 at the Vandalia Baptist Temple, 724 Helke Rd., Vandalia with Rev. Rick Washburn officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery, Tipp City. The family will receive friends at the Vandalia Baptist Temple on Thursday evening from 5-8 pm.
