LESZKIEWICZ, Jan age 90, of Vandalia, passed away Friday, December 2, 2011 at Elmcroft of Xenia. He was born January 18, 1921 in Belarus and came to the United States as a post- World War II immigrant through Ellis Island. Jan survived being held in a German Nazi work camp during the war. Jan married his wife, Olga in 1959 and treated his step-son as his very own special son. He was a retired machinist with General Motors and he supported his relatives in Belarus with money and clothing over the years. His hard, dedicated work made him a success, and contributed to making our country a better place to live. Jan had a love of gardening, flowers and storytelling. He is survived by his wife, Olga; his son Dr. Nick Shannon and a daughter-in-law he loved very much, Dr. Patricia Shannon of Beavercreek and his two granddaughters, Alexandra Shannon of Fairborn, and Abby Shannon, a student at Kent State University. He truly cherished his role as a grandfather and loved his girls very, very much. Jan was also a founding member of the Dayton areas first Russian Orthodox Church, St. Paul the Apostle Orthodox Christian Church. Funeral services for Jan will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, December 7 at St. Paul the Apostle Orthodox Christian Church, 4451 Wagner Rd, Dayton, OH with Rev. Ted Bobosh officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 11:00 am until time of service. Arrangements entrusted to Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia.
