Jeanne L. Huston

January 20, 1933 — December 5, 2017

Jeanne L. Huston, 84, of Vandalia, OH, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, 12/5/2017, at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, OH.

Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, 12/8/2017, at Shiloh Church, 5300 Philadelphia Dr., Dayton, OH 45415.

A second, short visitation will precede the funeral on Saturday, 12/9/2017, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., again at Shiloh Church. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Senior Pastor Jay McMillen officiating. Burial will follow at Popular Hill Cemetery, Vandalia. Arrangements are by Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home.

Jeanne was born in Middletown, OH, to Ruth (Eaton) and Leroy (“Bud”) Laughlin on 1/20/1933. She was a proud Hamilton High alumnus, and maintained close relationships with several of her high school classmates, particularly Virginia (Coates) True, her best friend. She married David A. DeCamp shortly after graduation in Hamilton, and together had four children. The family moved to Vandalia in 1964, where Jeanne remained. She and David divorced, and she married Eugene Huston of West Milton, OH, in January, 1971. The two blended their families into one, and raised Jeanne’s youngest, Amy, together. Jeanne and Gene were very active members of the Vandalia United Methodist Church until 2005, when they joined Shiloh Church U.C.C. She enjoyed volunteering in the Shiloh Church office for many years. They traveled the world, participated in countless community events/activities, and found great joy in camping. They were members of the Ohio and International Starcraft Camper Clubs, and Jeanne continued camping through this past October. She had fun bowling and golfing in numerous leagues, playing euchre and pinochle with different groups, singing in the choir, and ringing hand bells. Jeanne always had a smile, hug, and love to share, and found great joy in the close relationships she had with so many, especially her longtime neighborhood family (the “Blucher Babes”). She “retired” in the early 1970s after working as an office manager for Dr. Robert McConnell, DO, and administrative assistant for Ohio Aviation.

She instilled in her children the tremendous values of family (biological and beyond), honesty, loyalty, and kindness. She showered so many with unconditional love, and was the glue of her large, blended family. Jeanne was beautiful inside and out, with just enough orneriness to keep everyone guessing. Her infectious smile could easily light up a room!

Jeanne is preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by husband Eugene Huston; four children: Steven (Dora) DeCamp of Boise, ID; Cindy (Paul) Schreiner of Dayton, TN; Laurie (Judi Hill) DeCamp of Coral Springs, FL; and Amy (Linda) DeCamp of Tipp City, OH: three stepchildren: Steven (Sherri) Huston of Vorhees, NJ; Stanley Huston of Englewood, OH; and Nancy Huston, Englewood, OH; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren; two cousins, Sharon Brazeau and Tarri Bryant of St. Petersburg, FL. ,

The family wishes to extend its sincere thanks to the Randall Residence and Miami Valley Hospital staffs for their exceptional care and compassion.
