Jeannette Frances Schlein
Age 86, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2020 at Randall Residence in Tipp City, Ohio. Born February 10, 1933 in Dayton, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Theodore & Viola Brooks. Jeannette was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Paul Schlein; two infant daughters, Cheryl & Sara; and by her two brothers, Ernie and Eldron Brooks. Jeannette is survived by her son, Mark Schlein (Tena) of Vandalia, Ohio; her daughter, Marcia Schlein Harsman (Steve) of Vandalia, Ohio; granddaughters, Kayla Schlein Corbin (Trent) and Paige Harsman; brother, Ted Brooks; and she leaves behind many other members of her family and good friends.
Jeannette was a resident of Vandalia, Ohio for over 50 years and was very active in the community that she so much adored. She was active in the PTA, owned & produced the local newspaper – The Drummer News, served in leadership roles for the Vandalia Chamber of Commerce, along with her husband (Don) promoted The Grand American Trapshoot and the Dayton Air Show, she served as a member of the Vandalia Lioness, held the position of President for the Vandalia Lioness, involved with Toys for Tots, involved with gaining community support, design, and obtaining approval to build the gazebo in Vandalia’s Seger Park, she was the front line administrator for Jan’s Flowers Shop, member of Phi Beta Psa sorority, and volunteered for many, many community projects to support our troops and various non-profit organizations.
Jeannette loved her country and always looked forward to vacations with her family to explore America. Upon her husband’s death, Jeannette along with her daughter Marcia, decided to continue those travels and accomplished the feat of venturing to all 50 states. Jeannette enjoyed everything that involved her two granddaughters, enjoyed the holidays, always looked forward to visiting family and friends, and loved all her relatives and those around her more than they realize.
Jeannette was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Vandalia, Ohio. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, January 18, 2020, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a service following at 1:00 p.m. at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Drive, Vandalia, Ohio 45377. Burial will take place at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery. If you so desire, contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Miami Valley Chapter, 31 W.
