Jeffrey Scott Theis
Loving husband, father, son, friend, and teacher, passed away peacefully at home on August 12, 2023, at the age of 56, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Jeff was surrounded by his loving family and his three dogs in his final weeks, finding peace and solace in the time shared together.
Jeff was born on September 18, 1966, to Toby and Barbara Theis. He grew up with his parents and sister, Susan Jebens (Theis), in Vandalia, Ohio. He attended Vandalia Butler High School, The Ohio State University, and later Wright State University, where he earned his teaching degree. His passion for teaching was fulfilled in his career as a middle school teacher with Dayton Public Schools.
Jeff’s love and devotion to his family was his biggest attribute. He was a loving and supportive husband to Stephanie Theis (Fields). He leaves behind his cherished children, Natalie Theis, Sam Theis and Rachel Koch, who were the light of his life. His nurturing presence, fatherly advice and sense of humor will be forever missed.
A man of many talents and interests, Jeff enjoyed many years being an Eagle Scout where he loved spending time outdoors and camping. He was an avid dog lover, finding comfort and companionship in the presence of his beloved pets. He was born with an innate love of music, especially the iconic tunes of the 70’s and 80’s, now forever captured in his extensive Spotify playlists. He was also a self-taught handyman, honing his skills through the virtual guidance of YouTube videos and This Old House episodes. Jeff’s sense of humor was infectious, and his quick wit, sarcastic remarks and dad jokes never failed to bring smiles to the faces of his friends and family.
The family will be receiving friends from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m., Thursday, August 17, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 7700 Dog Leg Road, Dayton. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Kurt Lammi officiating. Following the funeral service all are invited to greet the family in the church social hall where light refreshments will be served.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, as a way to honor Jeff’s memory and contribute to the ongoing fight against this terrible disease.
