Joan M. Ankeny

ANKENY, Joan M., age 80, of Vandalia, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at Hospice of Dayton. She was born July 1, 1931 in Gettysburg, PA, daughter of the late Theodore & Elizabeth (Sanders) Stape. Joan was a retired employee of General Motors with 20 years of service and also served the Vandalia Butler Schools as a cafeteria worker for over 10 years. She was a former member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Butler Athletic Boosters. Preceded in death by her husband, Verle in 2008 and 1 infant daughter, Joan is survived by her son, Dan Ankeny & fianc, Laura; 3 step-children, Teresa McGary, Laura Meeker & Michael Ankeny; grandson, Dillon Ankeny; and numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; 1 brother, William Stape and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, February 3 at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia with Pastor Randy Warner officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 11:30 am until time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton in Joans memory.
