Joan L. (Mann) Solomon

August 11, 1939 — September 28, 2011

SOLOMON, Joan L. (Mann) age 72 formerly of Vandalia, of Dayton, passed away Wednesday September 28, 2011 at Miami Valley Hospital. She was born August 11, 1939 in Hinton, W. VA, daughter of the late William Jennings & Hazel (Reese) Rodes. Joan was a retired Postmaster from the U.S. Postal Service; was a member of N.A.P.U.S. where she served as District Secretary and Treasurer; was a member of the Retired Postmasters Association; a former registered nurse; a member of the Vandalia Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary; OES # 562 and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vandalia where she attended the Classics Class. Joan was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Solomon in 1998. She is survived by 2 daughters Rhonda Fleet of Centerville and Teresa Terri & husband Steve Hart of Dayton; one son Ken & wife Leslie Mann of Vandalia; 3 grandchildren Melissa (Fleet) & husband Matt Ledford, Logan Mann and Bryson Mann; her dog Chessie and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday October 1 at 10:30am at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home 139 S. Dixie Dr. Vandalia with Rev. Eric Wardle officiating. Burial will follow at Poplar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5 to 7pm. If so desired, contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton or to the Vandalia Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary in Joans memory. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Spring Hills Singing Woods for their loving care of Joan during her illness.
