John D. Beckey of Englewood, Ohio went to be with his Lord on January 4, 2014. Jack was born on April 3, 1919 and was 94 years old. He was born and raised in Pittsburgh PA and was preceded in death by his beloved wife Della Leslie Beckey , his parents John H. Beckey and Ethel W. Beckey, three sisters, Ester Brady of Florida, Edna Wise of Arizona, and Kathleen Asting of Florida, two brothers Bob Beckey and Bill Beckey. Jack is survived by his loving daughter Patricia Marie Beckey Baxter of Australia, grandson Graham Baxter and granddaughter Jomar Liddy and husband Chris of Australia, great-grandchildren; nephew, Bob Beckey (Patrice), nephew Larry Beckey (Ruth) nephew Bruce Beckey (Linda), nephew Jack McCann and son Amerika, niece Karen Wolter (Bruce) and her three children. Jack was employed for 20 years at Aeroproducts, GM and 24 more years at Chrysler. He served in WW II in the US Navy aboard the USS LST 803 and participated in the initial invasion of Okinawa in the North Pacific and took part in the final surrender of Japan at Tokyo. He faithfully attended the Englewood United Methodist Church for 20 year, prior to that he was a member of the Salem Church of God. He was a charter member of the Vandalia Ohio Masonic Lodge #742 for over 50 years; he also participated with the Antioch Shriners. He liked people and children. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, January 15 at the Englewood United Methodist Church, 107 N. Walnut St., Englewood, with Pastor Kimberly Armentrout officiating. Interment will follow at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery, 8135 N. Dixie Dr., Dayton, OH with a brief graveside service. The family will receive friends at Englewood United Methodist Church on Wednesday from 11:00 am until time of service. Arrangements entrusted to Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami County, Inc., P.O. Box 502, Troy, OH 45373 in Jack's memory.
