John P. Derksen
Age 65, of Harrison Twp., passed away Friday, December 1, 2017, at his home after an extended illness. He was born July 9, 1952 in Dayton to the late John & Virginia Lee (James) Derksen. In addition to his parents, John was also preceded in death by four siblings, Frank, David, Leann Derksen and Ruth Fisher.
John was a U. S. Army veteran and he retired from DP&L as an emergency customer service lineman. He loved restoring antique cars and he was an avid Ohio State Football fan.
John is survived by his loving wife of the past 43 years, Sharon A. (Fowler) Derksen; two children, Ron Derksen & his wife, Lainie and Melissa Derksen; two grandchildren, Alexis Derksen and Briana Minard (Dean); four great grandchildren, Amelia, Nicholas, John and William; and by five siblings, William Derksen, Charles Derksen (Janette), Harriet Christopher (Benny), Carol David (Gene) and Marilyn Matheny.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday (12/5) at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Pastor Steve Veg will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow at Poplar Hill Cemetery in Vandalia. The family will be receiving friends from 1:00 p.m. until time of service.
The family would like to thank John’s caregivers from Crossroads Hospice for the loving & tender care they provided to him during his last days.
In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made in memory of John to his wife. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
