John C. Dickinson Jr.

DICKINSON, John C. Jr. age 81 of Clayton died October 8, 2010. He was born July 17, 1929 in Bisbee, AZ son lf the late John C. Sr. & Pearl S. Dickinson. He was married to Carol A. Cappel on December 27, 1956 at Fairview United Methodist Church in Dayton. John attended the University of Arizona and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD in June 1952. He served on active duty with the U.S. Air Force for 6 ½ years at stations throughout the U.S. and Korea. He remained in the active Reserves after leaving the Air Force and retired as a Colonel USAFR. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law Mark & Susan Dickinson; granddaughters Jessica and Madison; step-grandchildren James and Elaine. After leaving the Air Force active duty, John joined NCR when they were in the formulative stages of the computer business. He worked at NCR for 32 years rising to a senior technical management position in corporate manufacturing as a Director of Technical Planning. John had many friends and was active in the Junior Chamber of Commerce in earlier years. He also served on the Board of Directors of the NCR Retired Employees Assoc. John was a member of the NCR Country Club where he and his wife Carol were avid golfers. Carol passed away on April 12, 2009. John will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday October 16 at 1:00pm at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home 139 S. Dixie Dr. Vandalia with Rev. Barbara Wiechel officiating. Burial will follow at Arlington Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12 noon until time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Fairview U.M.C. 828 W. Fairview Ave. Dayton in Johns memory.
