John R. Parish

PARISH, John R., age 84, died at home, Sunday, December 27, 2015. He was born March 16, 1931 in Platteville, WI, son of the late Gretta & T. Arthur Parish. John was a U.S. Army Veteran and he received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, and his Master’s Degree from the University of Iowa. His work in Civil/Structural Engineering brought him to Dayton 42 years ago for engineering and design of the Cargill plant. John was an accomplished pianist, avid reader, and an excellent woodworker. He was a longtime of member of Christian Life Center.

Preceded in death by 2 infants, Susan and Jonathan, John is survived by his wife of 64 years, Floreta (Rasque) Parish; three children, Steven (Afet) Parish of Columbus, Paula (Parish) Cannon of Northern KY, and S. Todd Parish (Kristi) of Cincinnati; one sister, Mary Johnson of Salem, OR; three grandchildren, Jayne O'Ryan, Rachel Cannon, and Madison Parish; and two great-grandsons, Kian and Liam O'Ryan.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, December 30 at the Christian Life Center, West Auditorium, 3489 Little York Rd., Dayton, OH 45414 with Pastor Stan Tharp officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:00 am until time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton in John’s memory. Private graveside services will be held for the immediate family at Greenwood Cemetery in Platteville, WI. Arrangements entrusted to Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia.
