After Basic Training, Jim was selected for Officer Candidate School and served in World War II as a Captain until 1946. While working at the Fair Store in Cincinnati, OH, he met and later married his wife, Reva (Mayhugh) in Bradenton, FL in 1948. They welcomed their daughter Donna Lynne in 1949. From 1967-1988 Jim was in the Air Force Civil Service at Wright-Patt assigned to the Aeronautical Systems Division where he managed the acquisition of various weapon systems including the B -58 Hustler Bomber, Special Operations Forces Gunship, and several trainers for the Air Force Academy. After retirement, he enjoyed some travel with his wife and family, gardening, and regularly meeting with friends and family. He also enjoyed helping his daughter and granddaughter, Amanda with all sorts of activities; and, after Amandas marriage to Joshua Woodruff in 2004, was exceptionally pleased to welcome his great-grandson, Owen into the world in 2008.
