Joseph Dean Mahaffy
Age 98, of Vandalia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. Joe was born November 23, 1925 in Eaton (Ohio) to the late Lillian and Earl Mahaffy. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Bertha; his second wife, Dorthea; two brothers, Paul and Elmer; and by one sister, Helen.
Joe is survived by his four children, Carol Mahaffy, Janie (Billy) Henderson, Roger (Judy) Mahaffy and Sharon (Jeff) Reynolds; 12 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; one sister, Irene; and by numerous nieces & nephews.
Joe served honorably in the United States Army and he fought in WWII in the Battle of the Bulge. He retired in 1989 from the Vandalia-Butler School System with 31 years of service. He was a member of Riverside Grace Chapel, where he loved to sing.
The family will be receiving friends from 10:30 – 11:30 am, Tuesday, May 28, at the Riverside Grace Chapel, 4429 Derwent Drive, Dayton. Funeral services will begin at 11:30 am at the church with Rev. Bill Henderson officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Poplar Hill Cemetery in Vandalia.
