Dixie Dr., Vandalia, followed by a procession to Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery with burial at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton.
How will we remember Madeleine? Of course, everyone has their own experiences with her they could relate, and most likely their tales of Madeleine will include her spirit of kindness, generosity, joy in the association of family and friends, and her unfailing sense of humor! Her ability to look at the funny side of life carried her through many difficult and sad times. She was able to laugh at herself, which was good because the opportunities often came up! Her pleasures included eating out and any kind of shopping. She liked eating out because as Ralph Senior once said, “She can’t cook, never could!”
Madeleine had a tender heart, always feeling sorry for and worrying about the world’s problems and people’s personal tragedies, especially children. She donated to some causes in her effort to help, and she was one of those who would “give you the shirt off her back,” as the saying goes.
While reminiscing the good times, once in a while Madeleine would get on her “pity wagon” and start recalling and relating all the hard times in her life. We must admit there were more of those times than she ever deserved, and perhaps they accounted for some of her negative feelings and attitudes, which also popped out and depressed her and anyone who had to listen. In that case, a glass of wine at home, called “Mom Juice,” helped!
Yes, we will remember Madeleine, who never wanted to be called by her first name Julia, for good, not bad. We will remember her as Mom; Grandma; Great Grandma; Great Great Grandma; Aunt; and Friend, a feisty and mostly happy little lady who was so, so proud of her family, knowing the names of every child, and loving each one above anything else in her life. Rest in peace, Madeleine. We love you!
