Karen Ann Florkey

Karen Ann (Alexander) Florkey, age 68 of Vandalia, passed away Wednesday, December 7th, 2022 at Kettering Health Miamisburg of complications arising from heart failure.

Karen’s memory will be cherished by her husband Edward, children John (Meredith), Jean (Jason) Mitofsky, and James (Jenna), grandchildren Ella, Mia, and Max Florkey, Ian and Ilana Mitofsky, and Caitlyn and Corinne Florkey, parents James and Dorothy (Guillozet) Alexander, and sisters Kyle Cox, Klara Schuwerk, and Krista Crippen.

Karen graduated from Julienne High School, attended Lima Technical College, and received a Masters of Science in Nursing from Walden University. Karen shared her gifts with her community as a skilled Registered Nurse and generous caregiver touching many lives in the intensive care unit, caring for hundreds of mothers and babies in the maternity unit, on the phone as a triage nurse, and helping those less fortunate access health care. Karen was a respected team leader; remembered for being organized and caring deeply about her team. She shared her passion for education and talents as an educator with others as a childbirth educator, asthma educator, and diabetes educator.

Karen enjoyed pop music particularly that of the 60’s and 70’s. She knew all the words and all about the artists of her favorite songs. Her love of music and the arts included attending performances by the Dayton Philharmonic and performances at the Loft Theater.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m., December 16th at St. Christopher Church, 435 E. National Road, Vandalia, Ohio.
