Kendall "Ken" Amlin

AMLIN, Kendall William Ken , age 80, of Vandalia, died March 22, 2008 at Hospice of Dayton. Ken was born September 7, 1927 in Miamisburg, OH, son of Orville and Irene (Borger) Amlin. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald. Ken is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Patricia (Kolb) Amlin; sons, Douglas and Sue of Tipp City, David & Christy of Vandalia, Steven & Pam of Vandalia, Jeffery & fianc, Jane Dockery of Yellow Springs, Craig & Judy of Indianapolis, IN; and daughter, Jennifer & David Halman of Columbus, OH; his grandchildren, Brian & Laurie, Carli & Brian Dean, Jessica; Andrew, Emily, C.J., Marcus, Gary; Jonathan & Tera, Charles & Tiffany; Ben & Jill, Kelsey, Dylan; Vincent & Rachelle, Kathryn, Sarah; Kendall Halman, Rebecca Halman and Suzanna Halman; his great-grandchildren, Kaley, Chloe; Gabriel, Savanna; Olivia, Emma Kate and Kyleigh; his brother-in-law, William & Marge Kolb of Centerville, sister-in-law, Joanne & Roger Burns of Omaha, NE and sister-in-law, Lois Amlin of Miamisburg; and good friend, John Zaidain. Ken graduated from Miamisburg High School where he lettered in football, basketball and baseball. He attended and played football for the University of Cincinnati in 1945. Ken served 18 months in the Army Air Corps. He returned to the University of Cincinnati for one year, transferred to and graduated from the University of Dayton. His Masters Degree was granted by Xavier University. Ken devoted 37 years to teaching and coaching young men and women. He was head football coach at Roth High School, Patterson High School and Chaminade-Julienne High School. He was a member of Polk Grove United Church of Christ. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, March 31 at Polk Grove United Church of Christ, 9190 Frederick Pike, with Rev. John Fowler officiating. Interment to follow at Polk Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Drive, Vandalia on Sunday from 2-5 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton, the Diabetes Association or charity of your choice in Kens memory.
