Kenneth E. Burris

BURRIS, Kenneth and Euligene, after 75 years of marriage, passed away peacefully within 48 hours of each other. Euligene, age 94, passed away October 7 and Kenneth, age 97 passed October 9, 2015 both at Friendship Village under the loving and compassionate care of the Friendship nursing staff and Vitas Hospice nurses. Euligene was born May 29, 1921 in Darke County, OH, daughter of the late John & Gertrude Henninger. Kenneth was born October 2, 1918, son of the late Ralph & Mary Burris and lived outside of Gordon, Ohio. Ken and Euligene were married on October 5, 1940 and started their lives together in Arcanum, OH. Kenneth served in the U.S. Marine Corp for two years and remained on U.S. soil. Euligene joined him at Camp Lejeune and in 1956, they returned to Ohio as Kenneth worked for a local trucking company, United Trucking. Kenneth retired from United Trucking and the couple moved to Vandalia. They enjoyed spending their free time in retirement helping others by visiting nursing homes where Euligene shared her love for music playing her keyboard and leading numerous singing groups while Kenneth assisted the residents. Kenneth was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Marcella and Sharon and 1 brother, Thurman. Euligene was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Olive and Viola, and they both lost their 2 precious grandchildren, Deborah & Jeffrey Burris. Mr. & Mrs. Burris are survived by 2 sons, Keith & wife, Sharon Burris of Dayton and Karl & wife, Debra Burris of Port Clinton, OH; 3 grandchildren, Diane Rashidi of Dillon, CO, David & wife, Peggy Burris of Spring Valley, OH and Chris Burris of Mansfield, OH; 4 great-grandchildren, Koa & Kian Rashidi, and Benjamin & Cameron Burris; along with their niece, Nancy Lephart and nephew, Bill Dull. Euligene is also survived by her very good friend, Marlys Gregory. A Memorial Service to celebrate Kenneth & Euligene will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, October 25 at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 5040 Rye Dr., Huber Heights, OH. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 pm until the time of service. If so desired, contributions may be made to the St. Timothy Lutheran Church or to Vitas Community Connection, c/o Vitas Innovative Hospice Care, 3055 Kettering Blvd., Ste. 400, Kettering, OH 45439 in memory of Kenneth & Euligene. Arrangements entrusted to the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia.
