Kenneth Eugene Severt

89, of Vandalia, passed away on Sunday, October 4 at his home. He was born in Dayton, Ohio on June 12, 1931 to William and Calista (McEldowney) Severt.  Ken graduated from Northridge High School, where he received All-State football honors. He was an Army veteran, a founding member of St. Christopher Catholic Parish, and a longtime member of the Vandalia Butler Historical Society. Ken was an Iron Worker with Local #290 and spent the majority of his career with Foreman Industries.

An avid fisherman, woodworker and a loyal Cincinnati Reds fan, his TV was always tuned to the Reds games. Ken’s faith guided him throughout his life and for years he was a “regular” at daily Mass. He loved his family dearly and was beloved by his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was fun-loving, compassionate, and always there for those in need.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Dick, Don and Bob. Ken is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 69 years, Frances, sons, Mike (Sharon) Severt, Tim Severt, daughter, Donna Fletcher, grandchildren, Abby (Brett) Jones, Jenny Severt, Zachary Severt, Andy Fletcher, Leah Fletcher; great-grandchildren, Cam and Chloe Jones, Noah and Addie Severt, sister, Mary Lou Sutter, sisters-in-law, Marty Severt, Nancy Carns and numerous nieces and nephews, all beloved.

In order to help protect Ken’s family and friends during these challenging times, Private Graveside Services will be held with military honors at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ken’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
