Lawrence A. Shively, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 4, 2023. He was born May 15, 1927 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Alvin E. and Carolyn Shively.
Larry left high school to enlist with the US Navy in the Korean War. He served two years before returning and graduating from Wilbur Wright High School. He then continued his studies and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Dayton. He worked his way up through Globe Tool & Engineering and then co-founded Mechaneer, where he was vice president of engineering. He and his colleagues were issued numerous patents over the years. He finished his engineering career at Micafil.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jeane Shively, and son, Joshua Aaron Shively. He is survived by two sons, Randy (Holly) Shively of Dayton and Rodney (Michelle) Shively of Springfield, Massachusetts, and one sister, Rosemary Shilt of Vandalia. His surviving grandchildren are: Rachel Shively, Michael Shively, Samuel Shively, and Will Shively.
As a boy, Larry was an Eagle Scout with Troop 54 and later served as an assistant scoutmaster for many years. He volunteered with Box 21 and worked part-time as a deputy for the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. He enjoyed hiking through Dayton’s many parks, playing tennis, participating with the Dayton Dog Club, and running in local 5K races. He primarily worshiped at Bethel Temple and Christian Life Center.
The viewing is scheduled for 11:00 am and the funeral is at 12:00 noon, March 10, 2023. These both take place at Woodland Mausoleum Chapel, 118 Woodland Ave., Dayton, Ohio. Arrangements entrusted to the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia.
