Layton Jay Brinkmeier

Layton Jay Brinkmeier, age 88, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 5, 2021.

He was born March 29, 1933, in Dayton, OH, son of the late Russell and Lela (Jay) Brinkmeier. Layton was preceded in death by his granddaughter Ashlea Bruening. Survived by his wife Jane and his three children from his first marriage Kristy Mikel (Paul), Scott Brinkmeier (Kris), Denise Hermetz (Henry) and Jane’s two children from her first marriage Leanne Stidham (Joe) and Rob Whitson (Diana). Together they have nine grandchildren Arin Bruening (Lindy), Scott Brinkmeier, Rachel Bishop (Justin), Ben Hermetz (Megan), Becca Hermetz, Sydney Stidham, Sam Stidham (Mary Beth), Leah Scharff and Shane Scharff and their four great grandchildren Raiden Stidham, Catherine Brinkmeier, Peyton Scharff and Brody Scharff.

He was a U.S Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.

Layton was a graduate of Fairview High School, Ohio Northern University and Central State University.

He retired from Dayton Public City Schools in 1989 with 32 years of service as an educator, principal and innovator and champion for students with disabilities.

In retirement he enjoyed traveling, eventually settling in Florida where he was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church Lake Placid, FL.

Layton touched many lives with his kind and generous nature and never knew a stranger. He had many hobbies and interests from morel mushroom hunting to woodworking. Wherever he went he was “Layton from Dayton”

He had a love for all things aviation and was active throughout his life in many organizations such as Wheelchair Pilots and Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA).

In 2021 he relocated back to Dayton to be closer to family and friends. He was loved and will be missed by many.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at The Blessing Barn 4433 Spence Rd Springfield OH 45502 on Saturday January 8, 2022. The family will receive visitors at 10:00AM followed by a service at 11:00AM.
