Lazarus "Larry" Manuel

MANUEL, Lazarus "Larry" age 81 of Tipp City, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2015 at Hospice of Dayton after a short illness. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Larry was committed to living for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He attended Roosevelt High School in Dayton, before joining the Merchant Marines in Newport News, VA at the age of 17, followed by four years in the U.S. Navy in San Diego, Whidbey Island, WA and Alaska. After his military service, he returned to Dayton and married Barbara "Joyce" Werner. He briefly pursued a career at an aircraft mechanic in Florida before joining the Dayton Fire Department and then opening his own plumbing business. Larry's interest were his family, his relationship with Jesus, food & cooking (his cabbage rolls were legendary), the OSU Buckeyes, collecting everything, aviation, steam engines, auctions and practical jokes. Larry was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Joyce in 2001. He is survived by his children, Laura of Thousand Oaks, CA; Stanley & wife, Debbie of Tipp City; Steven of Phoenix, AZ and Susan of Dallas, TX; 6 grandchildren, Ethan, Christina, Seth, Matthew, Melanie and David; and numerous other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, January 17 at the Bethel Christian Assembly, 327 S. Smithville Rd., Dayton with Pastor Daniel W. Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Poplar Hill Cemetery, Vandalia. The family will receive friends at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia on Friday evening from 6-8 pm and also from 11:00 am until time of service on Saturday at the church.
