Leland Sprecher

SPRECHER, Leland N. age 97 of 10 Wilmington Place, formerly of Vandalia, passed away Wednesday August 31, 2005 at Bethany Lutheran Village. He was born October 22, 1907 in Dayton, son of the late John W. & Nina (Young) Sprecher. Leland was the owner of Sprecher B.I.E.. He was a member of the Vandalia United Methodist Church where he taught the Sprecher Sunday school class for 68 years. Leland was a charter member of the Vandalia Lions Club, a member of the Vandalia Butler Chamber of Commerce, and had been awarded the Citizen of the Year Award from the City of Vandalia. He was preceded in death by his wife Charlotte, a son-in-law Walter Lakin and a grandson-in-law Mike Block. Leland is survived by one son Phillip & wife Janice Sprecher of Galena, OH; one daughter Cynthia Lakin of Butler Twp.; one brother John Jack Sprecher of CA; 5 grandchildren Kathryn Fessler, Jane & husband John Heath, Laura & husband Nick Kraus, John & wife Ruth Sprecher, Andrew & wife Christine Sprecher; 9 great-grandchildren T.J. & wife Rachel Mitchell, Lindsay Rader, Brice Rader, Natalie Heath, Madelaine Heath, Katharine Heath, Charlotte Sprecher, Rachel Sprecher, and Nathaniel Sprecher, and a host of other relatives and friends. Graveside services for family and friends will be held on Tuesday September 6 at 10:30am at Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Tom Weeks officiating. The family will receive friends at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home 139 S. Dixie Dr. on Monday evening from 5 to 8pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Vandalia Butler Historical Society in Lelands memory.
