HOESSLI, Lewis M., age 89 of Vandalia, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2016 surrounded by family. He was born June 28, 1926 in Richmond, IN, son of the late Lewis & Margaret Hoessli. He graduated high school and joined the Army Air Corp where he worked in aircraft maintenance and was discharged after WWII ended. Lewis married Jean DeBoer in 1950 and together they raised a family of five children in Vandalia, Ohio. He worked for 40 years as a toolmaker, 23 with NCR and 17 with General Motors. After retirement, Lewis & Jean moved to Florida where he truly enjoyed boating, fishing and the outdoors. He was an avid sports fan who loved to play golf and bowl. He enjoyed watching basketball, football, especially the Cincinnati Reds.
Lewis was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Jean and one brother, Jacob. He is survived by his son, Steve (Diana) Hoessli of Butler Twp., daughter, Vicki (Dan) Reynolds of Vandalia, daughter, Debby Boyce of Tipp City, daughter, Sandy (Scott) Kasler of Vandalia and daughter, Terri Clark of Dayton; brother, David Hoessli of IA; 11 grandchildren; 21 great grand-children and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, March 4 at Vandalia United Methodist Church, 200 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5-7 pm at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia and also on Friday morning from 9:30 am until time of service at the church. If so desired, contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton in Lewis’s memory.
