Lillian Lubbert, 90, of Vandalia, died peacefully at home on Thursday, February 6, 2014, and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Lillian was born in Chicago, Illinois, on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1923, to Frank and Martha (Koehler) Mangels. She graduated salutatorian in a class of over 600 from Carl Schurz High School and attended Moody Bible Institute evening school. She was active in InterVarsity and typed book manuscripts for author Eugenia Price. On August 3, 1957, she married Paul Lubbert and worked alongside her husband as he pastored Union Baptist Church in Forest, Indiana from 1962 to 1966 and Colorado Avenue Baptist Church in Dayton from 1966 to 1971. She conducted Child Evangelism Fellowship Good News Clubs for the neighborhood children and worked as a secretary at Dayton Christian Schools. She and Paul owned and operated Olympia Health Food Centers in Dayton and Kettering from 1970-1993. She later worked at Always Natural Foods in Beavercreek and then at Nutra Foods Huber Heights until 2011. She attended Washington Heights Baptist Church and then Far Hills Baptist Church for a number of years before her move to Vandalia where she worshipped at First Baptist Church of Vandalia. Lillian had a passion for meeting the needs of others, sharing her love of Christ, and encouraging everyone she met. Her husband of 46 years, Paul, and her sister, Lucille, preceded her in death. She is survived by her two daughters: Susan Dixon (Danny) of Vandalia and Linda VanderMeulen (Doug) of Fargo, ND; grandchildren: Michael, Megan, Zac (Kacey) and Brienne (Steve); her brother Frank of Chicago. We are grateful to Dr. Thuney and Dr. Nazir who provided excellent care for her. Special thanks to her beloved caregivers who enabled us to keep her at home: Julie, Nikkol, Stephanie, Michelle, Connie and Cherise. The family will receive friends Thursday, February 13, from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 14, 10:30am, both at Morton and Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Interment at David's Cemetery.
