SWANK, Mae E. (nee Ganger), age 98, of Vandalia, passed away Friday, January 20, 2012. Mae was born in Dayton, OH June 26, 1913 to the late J. R. & Violet (Cunningham) Ganger; graduated from Patterson CO-OP, Class of 1931, earning her diploma without missing one day of school; was a member of the Polk Grove United Church of Christ, Vandalia & Englewood Senior Citizen Club and the Vandalia Historical Society. Preceded in death by 2 husbands, Hap Moore and Ed Swank, granddaughter, Beckie Meade, great grandson, Nick Seihl and 1 sister Charlotte Mullinex. Survived by 3 daughters & sons-in-law, Carol & Marvin Artz, Norma & Charles Tobias, Judy & Bob Laughter; 1 step son & daughter-in-law, Terry & Joan Swank; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and a host of relatives and dear friends. Mae loved to play cards and games. She was admired for her keen mind and sense of humor, and will be sadly missed by all that knew her. Funeral service 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia. Interment Polk Grove Cemetery. Maes family will receive friends 10 A.M. Wednesday until time of service at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Vandalia Food Pantry.
