Margaret Mary Locker (nee: Callahan)
Age 89, of Vandalia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at the home she shared with her family for more than 50 years. She was born February 2, 1929 in Boston, Massachusetts to the late Cornelius and Josephine Callahan.
She was married to William “Bill” Locker for 61 years until his death in 2010. In addition to her parents and husband, Margaret was preceded in death by her sisters, Julia Callahan and Josephine Cranford; and brother, Tom Callahan.
She is survived by her sister, Eileen Gregory of Chelsea, Mass.; Children, Tom (Nina) Locker of Davis, Calif., Helen Maxwell of Arlington, Mass, Christine Locker of Union, Kym Broadstock of Riverside, and Bill (Correne) Locker of Camarillo, Calif; Grandchildren, Anna Fisher, Mason Maxwell, Justin Maxwell, Megan (Aaron) Anthony, Nicole Broadstock, James Locker, John Locker, Jacob Locker and Lukas Locker; Great Grandchildren, Elaina and Catherine Maxwell and Lea, Nathan and Caroline Anthony, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends.
Margaret was a friend to all who knew her and always had a kind word for everyone. She enjoyed sewing and was happiest spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church in Vandalia, where she was part of the founding board that established the parish. She operated Margie’s Beauty Shop out of her home on Spartan Avenue in Vandalia during the 1950s-60s and later worked at Fox Cleaners until her retirement. Her family is grateful for the wonderful years they shared with here and her lifetime of love and devotion.
The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday (7/5) at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Rev. Fr. Francis Keferl at 10:30 a.m., Friday (7/6) at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 435 E. National Rd., Vandalia. Interment will follow at Poplar Hill Cemetery in Vandalia.
In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made in memory of Margaret to the Miami Valley Hospice.
