Marian Emma Blum Higgins

HIGGINS, Marian Emma Blum, age 91 of Vandalia passed away September 16, 2010 at Spring Hills-Singing Woods Assisted Living facility. She was born September 5, 1919 in Los Angeles CA, daughter of the late Ralph and Theresa (Bundschu) Blum. Marian retired from Georgetown Universitys School of Languages and Linguistics, was an aspiring aviatrix (WAFS) during WWII, and spent a 7 year honeymoon in Brazil from 1946-1953. Preceded in death by her parents, 1 son Robert W. Higgins, 1 brother Robert Blum, and 2 sisters Virginia Sullivan and Sister Terese Adele. Marian was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother and is survived by her husband of 64 years, William L. Higgins; 3 children (and their spouses): Michael W. (Mary S.) Higgins of Vandalia OH; Peggy Higgins of Greenbelt MD; and John W. Higgins (Mary J. Niles) of San Francisco CA; 1 brother Richard D. Blum of Atlantic Beach FL; 1 sister Sister Margaret Virginia of Caldwell NJ; 6 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Friday, 7 Jan 2011 from 7-9 PM at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday 8 Jan 2011, at 11 AM at St. Christophers Church, with Fr. Francis Keferl officiating. Burial will be conducted in the spring at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to either Hospice of Dayton or to the Caregivers Associate fund at Spring Hills-Singing Woods Assisted Living facility.
