Marilyn K. Shoup

January 8, 1941 — August 27, 2018

SHOUP, Marilyn K. age 77 of Butler Twp. passed away unexpectedly on Monday August 27, 2018 at the UK Hospital in Lexington, KY. Marilyn was born January 8, 1941 in Springfield, OH, daughter of the late Edward & Minnie (Wilkinson) Stewart. She graduated from Northwestern HS in Springfield and went on to attend the Miami Valley School of Nursing where she obtained her RN certification. After graduation, she worked in public health in the Dayton area prior to marrying her husband, Don Shoup, in 1962. Later in life, she would go on to receive a degree in Healthcare Administration from St. Joseph College in Maine. While married, she played the piano and sang for her church, helped Don with his business, Bon Builders, played tennis with her buddies and traveled to Lake Cumberland on the weekends and took many trips to go snow skiing. Marilyn’s love for tennis led her to be a founding member of Schroeder Tennis Center in Tipp City where she continued to play on a regular basis. As the years passed, the snow skis were traded in for beach chairs and flip flops as Don and Marilyn preferred the warmth of Florida. They enjoyed many days on the boat watching the sunsets as well as socializing with the many friends they made over the years at Harbor Towers Yacht Club. Marilyn was a strong, optimistic woman who would open heart to anyone and everyone. She loved unconditionally and people enjoyed her company. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her but she will be remembered for eternity.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband in 2013. She is survived by son, Dana (Jenny) Shoup of Butler Twp., daughter, Denita (Scott) Fullam of Vandalia; sisters Linda Adams (Graham Wardell) and Kathy (Gus) Theodor; 4 grandchildren, Dylan Shoup, Danielle (Walker) James, Caleigh Fullam and Kyle Fullam; 2 great-grandchildren, Mason & Kolten James. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 1 at 11:00am at First Light Church (formerly First Baptist Church Vandalia) 140 Elva Ct. Vandalia with Rev. David Starry officiating. Burial will follow at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday evening from 4-7pm.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to The Ohio State Comprehensive Cancer Center, Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute Donor Relations “Cure for Pancreatic Cancer Fund” P.O. Box 183112 Columbus, OH 43218-3112 in Marilyn Shoup’s memory. Envelopes will be available at the visitation.
