Martha S. "Sue" Ryherd

June 11, 1936 — February 25, 2013

RYHERD, Martha Suzanne, age 76, passed away February 25, 2013, at her home in Vandalia, Ohio. Martha, better known as Sue, was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on June 11, 1936 to Homer and Beeda Anderson. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Dwaine, and their four sons, Gary and his wife, Debra of Vandalia, Marcus and his wife, Beth of Clarksville, Tennessee, Jeffery and his wife, Beth of Carlisle and Bruce and his wife, Brenda of Terre Haute, Indiana. Sue was also the proud grandmother to 10 grandchildren, Dana, Shelby, Michael and his wife, Kristina, Cory and his wife, Jayni, Steve, Greg, Bryan, Morgan, Connor and Brandon, and two great-grandchildren, Addison and Isabella. Sue, upon moving to Vandalia in 1971 started working as a part-time aide at Demmitt Elementary School. What started as a part-time job culminated into a 30-year career as an employee with the Vandalia-Butler City Schools. During her tenure, Sue worked various positions at Demmitt Elementary, Morton Junior High School and Vandalia-Butler High School. Sue, an avid sports fan became involved in Vandalia-Butler intramural sports programs, coaching numerous girls basketball and softball teams at both the High School and Junior High School level. During the summer, Sue split her time between coaching several traveling girls softball teams and her favorite activities of golf and fishing. Upon retirement from the school system in 2001, Sue began working for Wal-Mart in Dayton before retiring in 2012. Sue is also survived by her brother, Carl Grounds of Williamsburg, Indiana and was preceded in death by her brothers, Preston, Hoyt, Hershel and James. Sue, being the youngest of six and only daughter of Homer and Beeda, pretty much grew up as a tomboy in an effort to keep up with her five brothers. They also inspired her love of sports. Being a product of Indiana, it was only natural that basketball became one of her greatest passions. Aside from sports, Sue also enjoyed needlepoint and various in-home activities. A small Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, March 2 at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 pm until time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made to Hospice of Dayton in Sues name. Condolences may be sent to www.mortonwhetstonefh.com
