Case, Mary Ellen (Cassel) age 88 of Vandalia, passed away on January 24, 2012. She was born Dec. 27, 1923, and the daughter of the late Dr. Homer Cassel and Opal (Gilbert) Cassel. Mary Ellen was a graduate of Fairview High School and Otterbein College, and was a member of the Vandalia United Methodist Church. She served as the program director of the North Area YWCA and was involved in many community organizations. She was recently selected as the recipient of the 2011 Distinguished Service Award by the Presidents Club of Vandalia-Butler. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, William D. Case; 2 sons, James Case and wife Cheryl and Charles Case and wife Janice; 1 daughter, Nancy and husband Dale Struble, all of Butler Twp; 6 grandchildren, Lisa (Case) Coy & husband, Patrick, Jessica (Case) Nussbaum & husband, Mark, David Case, Natalie Struble, Celia Struble, and Julianna Struble; 2 great- grandchildren, Claire and Benjamin Nussbaum; 1 brother, William Cassel and 1 sister, Carol Badgley & husband, Doug. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, January 28 at the Vandalia United Methodist Church, 200 S. Dixie Dr. with Rev. Thomas Weeks officiating. Interment to follow at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia on Friday evening from 6-8 pm.
