Mary Lou Miller (nee:Strome)
Age 81 of Vandalia, born April 10, 1935 passed away Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Miami Valley Hospital after a brief illness.
She is survived by her sister Peggy (Tom) Mellett, devoted daughters Kim (Scott) Griffith, Pam (Mike) Trick and Dana (Eric) Cluxton. She was affectionately known as Gigi by her seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Eric (Erin) Griffith , Abby and Will; Chris (Erin) Griffith, Lacie and Lily; Jeremy (Chakara) Trick, Mahalee, Tyler and Adriel; Jessica (Pat) Burke, Joey; Matt (Michelle) Cluxton, Harry, Paige and Finley; Amanda (Matt) Bachus, Henry; and Andy Cluxton.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Loretta Strome, sister Jane Balmer and husband of 59 years, Richard (Dick) Miller.
She was a 1953 graduate of Tecumseh High School and started working at Chrysler Airtemp where she met the love of her life and married him on November 24, 1955. She mastered the art of mother and homemaker. Mary Lou worked part time at the Vandalia license bureau and retired from the fur salon at Elder Beerman Northwest in 1985. She loved playing golf at Cassel Hills with Dick in the Over The Hill Gang as well as the ladies 18 hole league. She enjoyed watching sports and was especially excited when rooting on her beloved Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Reds and Bengals. Always the perfect hostess, she made sure every guest had whatever they needed. Her recipes are legendary and her kitchen was never closed.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Miami Valley Hospital for their kind and compassionate care.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday (12/1) at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Pastor Grant Edwards will officiate. The family will be receiving friends from 11:00 a.m., until time of service.
In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to a charity of your choice in Mary Lou’s name.
