Marylee E. Spaugy

Marylee Ehemann Spaugy, of Vandalia, passed away in the early morning hours of June 22, 2016, with her beloved daughters, Teri & Cathi by her side. Marylee was born on a farm near Maplewood in Shelby County, Ohio, “under the family Christmas Tree” on Christmas Eve 1930. She was married to Richard J. Spaugy on September 20, 1953, and to this marriage four children were born, Phillip, Teri, Jeffrey and Catherine.

Marylee was preceded in death by her husband, Richard J. Spaugy, parents, Karl and Helen Ehemann, brother, Robert Ehemann, and on June 8th of this year, a very special friend, Paul Meyer. She is survived by her children, Phil Spaugy (Amy), Teri Wintrow (Jeff), Jeff Spaugy, and Cathi Spaugy; her grandchildren, Alicia McCracken (Jerome), Stacy Roberts (Matt), Daniel Spaugy, Matthew Spaugy, Cody Spaugy, Carra Spaugy, and Casey Gleadell (Shannon); great-grandchildren, Taelyn and Kinzlee McCracken, Kailyx Roberts, and Vann Gleadell; in addition her beloved dog, Nora, her cats, Simon, Graber and Rascal, and T.T. the Turtle.

Marylee was a wonderful wife, mother and friend who had an unshakable belief in the power of love and understanding. She never met a stranger and loved hugging. Oh, how she loved to hug. She had a tremendous work ethic and simply loved to work. She really enjoyed her co-workers, particularly those who worked with her at the Repeat Performance Consignment Shop, whom she considered family. As our mother, she was the “Rock” of our family, exhibiting a tremendous amount of courage, understanding and faith, particularly after the untimely passing of our father in 1990.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff of the Crossroads Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Vandalia, and to Crossroads Hospice for their exceptional care and love for our mother during her final days.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Marylee’s life will be held at 4:00 pm, Saturday, July 9, 2016 at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:00 pm until time service.
