Matthew L. Farst

May 1, 1981 — August 20, 2018

FARST, Matthew L., 37, passed away on August 20, 2018 at Hospice of Miami County after a long illness. Matthew was born May 1, 1981 in Dayton, Ohio. Matthew graduated from Vandalia Butler High School and attended Northern Colorado University. Matt worked as a manager at Ken’s Pharmacy in Vandalia before his illness.

Matthew is survived by his wife, Natalie, and three daughters, Alexis, Hadley and Hayden, his parents, Ken and Candice, and five siblings: Allen, Josh, Monte, Brad and Kenton and many nieces and nephews.

Matthew loved God, family and music. Matt was always eager to learn and to share his “MacGyver” skills with his girls. He taught his girls to love themselves and enjoyed laughter even at his own expense. He was protective of his family but empathetic to others’ problems around him. He loved discussing deep, meaning-of-life problems. He was often a dreamer with practical solutions but occasionally relished taking a hillbilly-duct-taped shortcut. He was a compassionate and thoughtful man who will be greatly missed.

Memorial contributions can be made to a charity important to Matthew’s family: Children’s Dyslexia Center, 525 W. Riverview Ave., Dayton, Ohio. Please include information that can be used for acknowledgement. A Memorial Service will be held later at a family farm near Mansfield where Matt’s ashes will be scattered.
