Michael H Witmer of Vandalia died Sunday, April 2, 2017 at the age of 62. He was born June 12, 1954 in Dayton, Ohio, the only child of Henry H and Helen E (Janacshek).
He was survived by Barbara A Witmer (Boston) his wife of 42 years, his daughter Katie (Sean) Alexander, son Ryan (Jessica) Witmer and his daughter Annie (Zack) Bolin; as well as his beloved grandchildren Hannah, Isabel, Paul, Cooper, Daniel, Henry, Oliver, Madeline, and Penelope and his cousin/brother Paul "Chesty" Recker.
Mike graduated from Chaminade Catholic High School class of 1973. He was united in marriage to his high school sweet heart, Barb Boston on December 7, 1974. He was a builder by trade and a member of St Christopher Parish. He will be remembered for his welcoming smile and his love for life. He loved to help his children and friends with their construction projects but the job had to be "done right". He was known for playing his favorite music for the neighborhood to hear while he sat on the front stoop and drank a beer, and spontaneously stopping by to visit his kids and grandbabies. He spent his Friday nights with his best friends and every other Tuesday at Fricker's with his sons-in-law and friends for "guys' night". He never missed the opportunity to cheer his children and grandbabies on in their events. He was a great coach. As a grandpa he would "share" goldfish with his grandbabies even if they tasted them first. If it was 85 degrees you could still catch him in a fleece and shorts. You could always find him around town riding his bike, working out at the rec center, at the 5th/3rd Field, or UD Arena; and if he wasn't there he was probably fishing especially at Lake St Clair. He fought the good fight and lived everyday to the fullest. The world will miss this man, we will miss this man.
Service will be held on Saturday April 8th at St Christopher Church at 10 AM. The family will receive guests for a short time before the service. At Mike's request there will be a celebration of life that will follow mass. In lieu of flowers please send donation to V Foundation for Cancer Research | Victory Over Cancer(https://www.jimmyv.org/).
