RHOADES, Mont Arthur, age 72 of Vandalia, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2017. He was born April 10, 1945 to Lina Skaggs Ellinger and Joseph Rhoades in Paintsville, KY. He was preceded in death by both parents and his only brother, Ronalville Miles. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sharon (Marshall) Rhoades; by this three daughters, Tina (Jimmy) Cross, Becky Snipley and Brenda Anderson; 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; his sister & brother in law, Nina (Marshall) Cooke (Bill), as well as several nieces, nephews and a host of treasured friends.
Mont was a US Army (NSA) veteran. He owned his own trucking firm and was an over-the-road truck driver for 48 years, retiring in 2012. He was a Mason and also volunteered as a firefighter/EMT with Vandalia for a short time.
Since retiring, Mont and Sharon have traveled extensively. They have cruised from Alaska to Hawaii and the Panama Canal, and throughout the Caribbean. They joined Blue Green Resorts and vacationed each January in Aruba. Mont was an Administrator for the Blue Green Resorts Addicts Facebook Page, and through that he made friends all over the world.
They bought a Windjammer Travel Trailer and together they have camped in almost every state, making many friends along the way. He will be missed by many friends and family.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm, Sunday, December 17 at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia with Chaplain Steve Veg officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 pm until time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton in Mont’s memory.
