Nancy Kay Harris

Age 79, of Vandalia, passed away on Monday, June 7, 2021. Born in Brookville, Ohio she was the daughter of the late Howard Landis and Ruby Spitler. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Wayne. Nancy was a devout Christian and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She regularly read the Scripture and lived her faith.

She was a healer and a Registered Nurse and served others in many ways such as Sunday school teacher, caring friend, and through her endless hospitality and bedside manner.

She graduated from the Miami Valley Hospital School of Nursing in 1963. She worked as a labor and delivery nurse, helping to deliver thousands of babies over the course of her career. She retired from MVH in 2004. She continued working as a nurse until 2016 including Southwest Ohio ENT.

She loved to cook and everyone always enjoyed her famous mac and cheese at gatherings. Nancy was an avid Gospel music fan, and attended concerts with her husband Big Jay whenever she could.

She loved her pets, flowers and her garden throughout her life as they brought her endless joy. An avid reader and patron of the Vandalia library.

Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, James Leonard Harris; son, Jay Allen Harris (Lisa); daughter, Judi Lynn Jordan (Scott); three grandchildren, Erica Lynn Steele, Ruby Leila Harris, and Scarlett Rose Harris; two great grandchildren, Dominik James Steele-Makenas and Matthew Wayne Lile; one sister, Patricia A. Zimmer, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends and flowers at 10 AM on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at the Grace Brethren Church, 810 Larry Avenue, Vandalia, OH. Funeral service will be held at Noon on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at the same location.
