Nancy Hiroko Troutman

June 11, 1931 — December 1, 2013

TROUTMAN, Nancy Hiroko, 82, loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully at Hospice of Dayton on December 1, 2013, with members of her family by her side. Nancy was small in stature, but had an energy as big as the sky and a generosity and kindness that knew no bounds. Her smile and laugh were perpetual and infectious, and no one who knew her went untouched by her charm and charisma. She had a special place in her heart for children, both her own and others. Quite often her house would be filled with the laughter of friends of her children and grandchildren. They were special to her, and to many she was "mom." Born in Tokyo, Japan in 1931, Nancy moved to the United States in 1956 after marrying her Air Force sweetheart, "Jimmy." Her English was flawless, and she instantly embraced her new country and was likewise embraced by her new family. She chose the American name "Nancy" after her mother-in-law, who loved her like her own daughter. Jim's enduring memory of Nancy will be as she stepped off the plane in America for the first time and looked to him to be as beautiful and delicate as a doll. Nancy is survived by her husband of 57 years, James; daughter, Deborah and her son, Zach and daughter, Bella; son, Jeff and his wife, Elka and their sons, Joshua and Jake; brothers, Minoru, Sadao, Tatsuo and their respective families; dear family friend, Martin Pleiss, and many extended family members and friends in Japan and the United States. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mieko "Daisy" Yamashita and Daisy's daughter, Yasuko. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 pm, Thursday, December 5 at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia with Pastor Russell Gross officiating. Burial will follow at Dayton National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Hospice of Dayton in Nancy's memory. Nancy will be missed in this world, but her love will forever shine down upon us and warm our faces.
