BARNARD, Norman Lynch, age 91 of Vandalia, passed on into eternal life with God on Thursday, November 9, 2006 at Elmcroft Assisted Living in Xenia. He was born August 20, 1915 in Franklin, NC son of the late Harry & Lois (Caldwell) Barnard. He was a former executive with Shell Oil Company for 37 years. Norman was a member of the Vandalia United Methodist Church, was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was preceded in death by his wife Joanna (Damman) Barnard, 2 sisters Evelyn Burns and Lois Gene Nye, and one brother Mack Barnard. Norman is survived by 3 sons James Harry & wife Lucille Barnard of Huber Heights, Leslie Norman & wife Susan Barnard of Butler Twp, Richard Charles & wife Diane Barnard of Vandalia; one daughter Judith (Barnard) & husband Gerald Mahan of Xenia. He also leaves behind a very special friend of 12 years Ozelle Francis. Other survivors include his grandchildren: Nancy Tareco, Christine & husband Terry Heiland, Christine & husband Rick Frisby, Brian & wife Debbie Holmes, Michael & wife Lori Barnard, Mark & wife Lisa Barnard, Daniel & wife Laurie Barnard, Rebecca Lewis, Nelson & wife Christi Barnard, Major Jeffrey Mahan & wife Victoria, James & wife Susan Mahan, Jason Mahan, Mark & wife Jaimee Wallerius, Ryan Wallerius, and Cameron Wallerius; 20 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday November 13 at 11:00am at the Vandalia United Methodist Church 200 S. Dixie Dr. Vandalia with Rev. Thomas Weeks and Pastor Robert McDowell of the Faith Community United Methodist Church of Xenia officiating. Private graveside services will be held at Evergreen Washelli Cemetery in Seattle, WA at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the church in the parlor on Monday from 10:00am until time of the service. If so desired, contributions may be made to the Vandalia United Methodist Church Memorial Fund in Normans memory. Arrangements in care of Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia.
