THOMPSON, Norman E., age 81, of Vandalia, went to his eternal home September 30, 2013 at Spring Hills Singing Woods, where he had been a patient for the past three years. He was preceded in death by parents, Lindsey & Dona Thompson, sisters, Edith, Beatrice & Irene Thompson, Lena Josephine Davis and brother, Eldred Thompson. Norman is survived by his wife of 59 years, Kathryn (Colegrove) Thompson; one son, Carl (Natalie) Thompson of Dublin, OH; one daughter, Ellen (Larry) Pelfrey of Vandalia; two grandchildren, Lindsay Pelfrey Freels and Garrett Pelfrey; two great-grandchildren, Layla Tackett and Gage Freels. Norman is also survived by a brother, Forest (Jack) Thompson of Waverly, OH; a sister, Sarah L. Thompson of Dayton, and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Norman was a proud veteran of the Korean Conflict, was a barber in the Dayton area for many years, and retired from General Motors. He was a member of the Salem Church of God and the beloved Joy Class. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, October 4 at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia with Pastor Dave Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6-8 pm. If so desired, contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association-Miami Valley Chapter in Normans memory.
